TS Optics 1.25" Laser Collimator for Newtonian telescopes This helpful adjustment aid is a must for any Newtonian telescope. The Laser offers a quick and easy way for checking the collimation of your Newtonian and, if necessary, also correct it. The 45° screen allows for a comfortable view from the side.
The laser collimator is delivered already well collimated. The adjustment screws at the upper side are protected by soft rubber. Normal operation or changing the battery will not misalign the collimator. If the laser should fell on the floor, you can remove the rubber plugs and realign the laser.
How to use - Preparation:
Turn the tube into a horizontal position and rotate it so that the focuser points upwards. Then you insert the laser into the 1.25" receptacle. The collimator should not be clamped in order to prevent tilting. A tilted laser would degrade the collimation result. - Collimation of secondary mirror:
Switch on the laser diode, look into the tube to the primary mirror and use the collimation screws of the secondary mirror until the laser dot is centered on the primary mirror. A center marking (hole reinforcement ring) is recommended for this. - Primary Mirror Collimation:
Turn the laser collimator so that you can see inside the 45° angled view port from the rear end of the telescope. If the optics is coarsely pre-adjusted, you can already see the reflected spot on the plate. Then use the primary mirror collimation screws until the returning laser dot hits the center bore of the laser.
Finished! Now your Newtonian is properly collimated and ready for a successful and joyful night of observing!
