Evostar-120 EQ-5 Refractor

Together with the EQ-5 mount the Evostar is a  compact, transportable telescope for an affordable price. The Evostar-120 with an aperture of 120 mm gathers 38% mor light than a telescope with 102 mm aperture. It comes with a 9x50 finderscope, a stainless steel tripod, and two 1.25" eyepieces.

Observing

This telescope is a good device for observing objects in our solar system. The moons of Jupiter can be seen under good observing conditions as discs with different sizes. Mars reveals finest structures and also the changing of size of the ice-covered polar caps can be observed. The moon is littered with the smallest grooves, furrows and craters, where smaller openings show only smooth surfaces.

Deep-sky observation is a highlight with this refractor. Weak nebulae can be seen as well as globular clusters, which are dissolved in single stars. We strongly recommend the use of 2" wide field eyepieces. This is the only way to create the feeling of spatial extent when viewing large-area deep-sky objects.

Photography

No matter whether photographing objects of our solar system, for example with digital cameras, or long-term exposures of nebulae, the refractor shows an exemplary performance. However, we recommend for deep-sky photography the usage of appropriate filters, which additionally reduce the color error.

Mount and Tripod

Standard features of the EQ5 mount include a built-in holder for polar scope, a latitude adjuster with micrometer scale, an azimuth polar-alignment adjuster, aluminum setting circles, large manual slow-motion tracking controls on RA and DEC, and a bubble level. The proposed strong and rigid field tripod is remarkably stable with adjustable height, incorporating 1.5"-diameter steel tripod legs. The lowest possible height with the tripod is 70cm and the maximum extendable height with the tripod is 121cm.
