New in the shop: Takahashi TPL eyepiece series

Ideal for planetary observers

Following the discontinuation of LE and Abbe eyepieces, Takahashi has now introduced the successor. The TPL eyepieces are designed as classic 4-lens Plössl eyepieces (Takahasi-Plössl), but with significant improvements. Takahashi has given the eyepieces ED lenses in order to minimise the chromatic aberration on the optical axis. The TPLs generate only about half the chromatic aberration (on the optical axis) of the Abbe eyepieces and only 2/3 of the LE eyepieces. Away from the optical axis, there are only slight differences between TPL, Abbe and LE. The image is extremely sharp up to about half of the field of view of 48°.

As with all eyepieces without a preceding Barlow, the focal length (interpupillary distance) depends on the focal length of the eyepiece. With the TPL, this is approx. 70% of the eyepiece focal length. Therefore, only focal lengths longer than 25mm are suitable for spectacle wearers in the strict sense.

Excellent coatings ensure a transmission of over 99% across the entire visual spectrum. The lens edges are naturally matt blackened. Takahashi has based the focal lengths of the TPL eyepieces on the older eyepiece series, they are identical.
