The electronic polar finder replaces the optical polar alignment scope.
The image is produced via a small lens that projects the sky region onto
a high-sensitivity CMOS sensor. Intelligent software then evaluates it
and displays the polar region on the screen of your laptop or PC, for
example.
The polar finder also works if you do not yet see the
polar star or Sigma Octantis (southern hemisphere) visually, for example
at dusk. The view of the north or south celestial pole must of course
be free.
In contrast to the optical polar scope, you do not have
to turn the mount to bring the polar finder into the correct position,
the software does that.
