Geoptik flatfield generator for telescopes with apertures from 292 mm to 372 mm
Image calibration is very important in the processing of an astronomical image. Each pixel in the images will have a numeric value that includes besides the object information the influences of:
-
Light from the celestial objects in the field of view
-
The various types of noise generated by the CCD
-
Defects in the optical system
-
CCD inhomogeneities (varying sensitivity from pixel to pixel)
-
Optical vignetting (image is darker away from the centre)
-
Dust on the CCD window
-
Internal reflections
With calibration one will remove as much as possible of the bias and dark current from each image. Also, one will try to remove the effects of certain types of optical defects like vignetting or dust.
The light intensity of the flatfield generator can be adjusted.
