Lunar Eclipses - Basics, observation, photography (in German)
The knowledge about lunar eclipses, presented clearly and practically: The book conveys the theoretical knowledge about eclipses and gives a detailed guide to own observations and photographs of these natural spectacles. The soft copper-red glowing full moon against the stars of the night sky is an impressive and fascinating sight - even today, in a time when the astronomical and physical backgrounds of lunar eclipses are understood. These backgrounds are compactly explained in the booklet : under what conditions do lunar eclipses happen, how often and in what rhythm they occur and where to watch them. Also the "secret" of the copper red turning is explained.
The second detailed part is about your own observation of lunar eclipses, either with the mere eye, a camera or the telescope. This includes extensive tips on photography such as the choice of the appropriate focal length and the correct exposure times. Last but not least, the data of all lunar eclipses from 2015 to 2021 are listed, which allow a scheduling already a long time in advance. The first listed and described eclipse is the total lunar eclipse from September 28, 2015.
About the authors: Susanne and Peter Friedrich, both professional astrophysicists, are longtime amateur astronomers and known among other things by the yearbook poster "Das Astronomische Jahr". They are also authors of numerous astronomical articles.
