Antlia Contrast Filter for Solar Photography
The photographic filter increases contrast on the solar surface. It improves sharpness and makes details in the CaK and H-alpha ranges more visible. The filter transmits light in the H-alpha range (656.3 nm), CaK range (393.3 nm) and CaH range (396.8 nm). The increase in contrast is not as extreme as with the 3 nm CaK filter. The filter cannot be compared to the expensive H-alpha filters used to visualise prominences. The FWHM is much too large. It is more of a general purpose and very good contrast filter.
The filter is suitable for refractors without a built-in field corrector up to 100 mm aperture. Above 100 mm aperture, or if a field corrector is built into the tube (flat field), we recommend the use of an energy protection filter in front of the lens. This will reduce heat radiation and prevent damage to the telescope or camera.
The Solar Discover is easily connected directly to the focuser via a 1.25" or 2" tube. On the camera side the filter has a 2" mount for suitable adapters.
